What Is Data In Motion?
Data in motion is like a river; it's flowing and unstoppable. It's the opposite of data at rest, like a big ol' lake. You can't move it around so quickly, but it's still valuable—it just sits there and waits for you to come to it. Data in motion is what happens when your email gets sent from you to your friend. It starts as data at rest (on your computer), then becomes data in motion when it travels through the various servers and routers to your friend's inbox. Data in action is a term that refers to data as it moves from one location to another. There are many ways for data to move—from email and the internet to satellite communications and radio waves. The process of encrypting this data is known as encryption. Encryption is the strategy by which information is encoded so that only those with access to a decryption key can read or understand it. This is done by using mathematical algorithms and computer programs, which are used to create keys and then apply them to each piece of information that needs protection. These keys are then encrypted, so only those who hold the decryption key can access them—and thus decrypt any information they're protecting using said encryption algorithm/programs. Data in motion is an essential part of big data analytics. Processing this data in real time can help an organization analyze the latest trends. However, processing this kind of data is challenging, so newer techniques have to be used rather than for data at rest. Data in motion is an essential asset that can help an organization gain powerful insights if appropriately used. It can be compared with a train that moves at high speed. To know where it will stop next, you must keep track of its current position and velocity. Then calculate its next destination based on these factors. This kind of calculation does not apply when analyzing data at rest because there is no need for real-time analysis and processing here.
