Cyberstalking is like a digital shadow. Someone is watching and tracking what you do online to cause mental or bodily anguish. This person has access to your computer and is monitoring your internet activity. It is comparable to being followed by an active predator online. Within the context of the crime of cyberstalking, the concept of "treatment" is essential. The experience of being subjected to harassment is analogous to having one's life made intolerable by an online bully. Someone is engaging in cyberbullying toward you if they repeatedly send you inappropriate messages or communications or engage in any other behavior intended to harm, intimidate, or annoy you. It is comparable to experiencing harassment at the hands of an internet troll. Another important phrase is "doxxing," which means "doxxing up." If someone doxxes you, it is the equivalent of having your online identity revealed to the public. When someone takes your personal information and makes it public without your consent, it is referred to as a data breach. Examples include when someone publishes your name, address, or phone number. It is the same as having your digital mask pulled off, which discloses your genuine identity to the rest of the world. In other words, it is the same thing. The concept of "impersonation" is another essential one associated with cyberstalking. Comparing it to a game is like playing dress-up with your computer. When a person uses the identity of another online user to cause harm to other users, harass them, or fool them into thinking something that is not real, they are engaging in the practice of impersonation. It's analogous to putting on a digital mask to fool other people. The term "cyberbullying" refers to a form of online harassment known as "cyberstalking" that is directed against children and teenagers.
