What Is Continuous Delivery (CD)?
Continuous Delivery is the practice of releasing code at will, and it's the only way to achieve true happiness. When constantly releasing new code, you can adjust your website or app as needed rather than waiting for a big release every few months or years. This gives you more flexibility and better control over how frequently you can make changes. It also means that when users find bugs or issues with your product, they don't have to wait for weeks while you work on them—they can get their fixes immediately! The great thing about continuous delivery is that it requires the production and test environments to be similar (or identical). Once new code is achieved, it triggers an automated workflow that builds, tests and stages the update without human intervention. This means less time spent testing manually and more time getting feedback from real people using your software. When continuous delivery is used, the developer decides whether the code is stable enough to move into a live production environment. The operations team is responsible for moving authorized code from stage to production server. Continuous delivery is a set of practices that helps teams release software faster and with higher quality. Without continuous delivery, a developer might spend days writing new code and then have to wait weeks or months for the rest of the organization to test, approve, and deploy it into production. That's too slow! With continuous delivery, developers can push code changes directly into production for immediate testing and feedback. They can also use tools like deployment pipelines to automate testing and deployment so that they don't have to manually click through the same set of tests every time they make changes. In this way, everyone's role is clearly defined, and responsibilities are clear.
