What Is Broad Network Access?
Do you know how sometimes you feel like you're working with your hands strapped up and tied behind your back just because you can't access the data you need from the device of your choice? In the old days, accessing network resources from anywhere but a desktop computer was impossible. Nowadays, we're lucky if we can get our hands on a laptop or a tablet, let alone a smartphone! Yet everything has changed. With broad network access, you can use any device connected to the web to get to your company's private cloud network. Not only can you use these devices to access network resources, but they'll also be accessible from any location with an internet connection. The Borland Database Engine supports standard database drivers and the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) application programming interfaces (APIs) for connecting to multiple authoritative data sources such as Paradox, Access, dBASE, FoxPro and text databases. Additionally, the users of BDE can use Borland's SQL Links to link to multiple database management systems such as Sybase, Oracle, Informix, DB2 and Interbase. BDE provides an executive file known as the BDEADMIN.EXE, which can be used to perform all administrator-related configurations on BDE. BDE provides Local SQL that lets users use query standard database tables unavailable on the database servers. Local SQL can also query multiple tables on remote SQL servers. Broad network access isn't something you usually think about when you're considering a private cloud. With more and more employees using smartphones, tablets, and other devices that offer online connectivity, giving them access to company resources from these devices makes sense. You can do this from your private cloud, but other options exist. With a hybrid cloud model, broad network access becomes an easily accessible and viable option for many companies.
