What Is Bourne Again Shell (Bash)?

A good shell is a thing of beauty. It doesn't have to be big, fast, or even pretty. It doesn't need to come with a warranty, and it doesn't need to do much at all, really—it just needs to make you feel like you're home when you use it Yes, there are other shells like the Bourne shell (Bash) and the Korn Shell (ksh). But these are not the shells that you love; these are the shells that love themselves. And they don't care about you. They want your attention so they can run their little scripts while showing off how smart they think they are! The Bourne again shell (Bash) is different. It's a free Unix shell that can be used in place of the Bourne shell. It conforms to the IEEE Portable Operating System Interface for Unix (POSIX) and Open Group shell standards—and offers much more than a pretty face! Bash is a command processor that runs in a text window, allowing you to type commands that cause actions and read commands from a script file. Bash is the most diverse and powerful tool on earth because it is versatile. A single command line can do everything from playing music to deleting your files permanently! Brian Fox originally wrote the shell that is the ancestor of all shells for the GNU Project. It was called Bourne Again Shell because it was a new and improved version of the Bourne shell, but it also included many features from other shells like the C shell and Korn shell. The name Bash was also chosen as a pun: a bash is an object that is hit, like an anvil or a hammer, but it is also defined as "a forceful blow" or "a sudden strike. " The project was designed to combine the best features of three different shells and combine them into one shell. Bash is free software, so you can download it on your computer!
