What Is Bell Labs?

Bell Labs is an organization that has been around since the birth of the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell founded it in 1876, and it's been at the forefront of telecom innovation ever since. In its heyday, AT&T Bell Labs was one of the most respected research labs in the world. It was responsible for many technological breakthroughs, including transistors and cellular phone technology. It also developed microwave radio transmission, allowing telecommunications companies to transmit signals long distances without wires. Bell Labs is responsible for so many things that it's hard to name them all. They've been credited with developing object-oriented programming languages like 'C suite' languages, the UNIX operating system, different kinds of lasers, and other fundamental advances in IT over the last few decades. It's not just their innovations that have made them such a powerhouse. It's also their culture. Bell Labs is where people can experiment, collaborate and innovate without fear of failure or reprimand for trying something new. It's an environment where people can develop ideas that will forever change our technology use! Bell Labs' innovations have helped shape our global communications system as we know it today, and its legacy continues to change how we communicate and connect daily. Bell Labs has been around for over a century, but its logo hasn't. The company's first logo was simple: just an image of Alexander Graham Bell's head and shoulders, with "Bell Telephone Laboratories" written underneath. It wasn't until 1939 that Bell Labs changed its logo to what we know today an image of a bell with the word "Bells" written underneath in a font still used today. While the company's logo has changed over time, its mission hasn't: Bell Labs was founded to "invent ways to put communication within reach of all people." that's still what they do today.
