Though the exact details of the man's motivation remain unknown, many online commenters assumed he must be a thrill-seeker. A series of copycat photos featured people hanging from different objects, such as a balcony rail or a jungle gym. Soon, Batmanning became a popular topic on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook. The most common variation of Batmanning involves hanging from a tree branch with both arms and legs. The position mimics the posture of Batman's logo, which further endears the fad to fans of the caped crusader. Batmanning, if you need to become more familiar with it, is a fad wherein people hang upside down from their feet while holding onto something. It's been around since 2011. It was first popularized by students at Purdue University who had been filming themselves in the position since 2008. The origins of the word "Batmanning" are unclear.
