What Is Alternative SQL Query?
One of the big problems that one can face while using SQL is that it's not a language. It's a very basic but definitely complicated database query syntax. In other words, you can't use it to say anything you want. But what if there was a very simple yet a very effective work around to use your favorite programming language to talk directly to your database? What if you could write an application that knew how to speak directly to your database like it knows how to talk now to your operating system? That's where alternative SQL queries come in. Alternative SQL queries are a family of query languages allowing developers to specify queries to SQL databases with languages other than the standard SQL. They are typically implemented for specific languages, such as Scala, Scheme, Ruby and Haskell. The goal is to let developers create queries in more comfortable languages. SQL, the Structured Query Language, is a popular language for accessing databases. Many programming languages have a built-in feature that lets you issue SQL queries right in your code. Yet the very basic problem is still lingering its head and that is, what if you want to use a programming language that doesn't have this feature? Enter the alternative SQL query languages. These serve as front ends to the query languages of popular SQL servers, such as MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server. They are designed to let users of other programming languages easily interface with relational database servers. SQL is a great language. It has its limitations. If you're a developer, there are a lot of SQL-based query languages out there that can help you to address those limitations. Some of these languages include HTSQL, Muldis D and MDX. These languages are intended to address shortcomings in the standard SQL language.
