Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The meeting took place at Hyderabad House in the national capital. During the summit, Cristiano Amon addressed the audience and spoke about artificial intelligence and its growing influence across devices and infrastructure. Speaking about smartphones, Amon said, “we look at our smartphones as an inseparable device.”

He added that artificial intelligence will fundamentally change how mobile devices are perceived and used. Highlighting Qualcomm’s work in chip development, Amon stated, “we’re one of the few companies working on chips from sub 2 milliwatts to a smart earbud that you’re going to wear and also 2000 watts for a chip on the data centre.”

He also underscored India’s rising role in global production networks. “India is becoming a global manufacturing hub,” Amon said during the summit. On the future of telecommunications, Amon said the sector is approaching its “next big transformation.”

He noted that 6G will move beyond incremental connectivity improvements and indicated that artificial intelligence will play a central role in future telecom networks. The India AI Impact Summit 2026 has brought together countries and international institutions to focus on collaboration and the role of artificial intelligence in addressing global challenges.

Earlier during the summit, Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan also met Cristiano Amon, where discussions centered on advancements in artificial intelligence and semiconductors. The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cristiano Amon formed part of the broader engagements taking place at the summit.
