Overall Rating
OpenAI is facing stiff competition from its artificial intelligence (AI) rivals, with Google’s Gemini 3 launch stealing away customers and Anthropic becoming the preferred destination for enterprise users.

Furthermore, deals such as 75% discounts for nonprofits from Anthropic are posed to attract more users and drive more conversions, amid models that outperform OpenAI’s already powerful products, which are putting a dent in OpenAI’s aspirations.

However, OpenAI can play hardball.

It’s already made a bunch of moves to retain a strong position in the enterprise realm with Accenture, with nonprofits, and in the education sector.

Now, with the release of its introductory state of enterprise AI report, the company is sharing a deep dive into how enterprises are adopting AI, what workers are gaining, and how organizational leaders are achieving productivity and new capabilities.

Moreover, the report is meant to help organizations plan how to deploy AI tools more effectively.

To compile the report, OpenAI analyzed two main data sources: real-world usage data from OpenAI's enterprise customers and a survey of 9,000 workers across nearly 100 enterprises that documented patterns of AI adoption.

It was found that over the past year:

  • Weekly messages in ChatGPT Enterprise grew nearly 8x

  • Usage of structured workflows grew 19x

  • Average reasoning token consumption per organization jumped around 320x.

  • Technology, healthcare, and manufacturing were the fastest-growing sectors.

  • Professional services, finance, and technology were the largest.

  • Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, and France became the fastest-growing countries, exceeding 140% year‑over‑year growth.

  • International API customers grew over 70% (last six months); Japan has the biggest number outside the U.S.

“People aren’t just using AI more often. They are using it for increasingly sophisticated tasks,” OpenAI said. As for performance incentives:

  • 75% of workers said AI improved the speed/quality of outputs, helping them save 40-60 minutes per day, with heavy workers saving 10 hours per week.

  • 75% said they could complete new tasks they previously couldn’t.

  • 87% of IT workers reported faster IT issue resolutions.

  • 85% of marketing and product users reported faster campaign execution.

  • 75% of HR professionals reported improved employee engagement.

  • 73% of engineers reported faster code delivery.

  • Frontier workers sent 6× more messages, and frontier firms sent 2× more messages per seat.

OpenAI noted that its tools aren’t just helping workers deliver their work faster but also helping them perform new kinds of work by helping them turn ideas into concrete outputs, all without the need of specialization or technical expertise.

“The AI landscape is evolving rapidly; OpenAI releases a new feature or capability roughly every three days. The primary constraints for organizations are no longer model performance or tooling, but rather organizational readiness and implementation,” OpenAI added.

OpenAI commands the most popular generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) platform in the world, boasting over 800 million users every week. This has helped build a strong name in the enterprise AI sector.

The AI leader is confident of its ability to make a comeback as the leader of the sector.

“The history of general purpose technologies—from steam engines to semiconductors—shows that significant economic value is created after firms translate underlying capabilities into scaled use cases. Enterprise AI now appears to be entering this phase.”

Do you think OpenAI will be able to pull back enterprise users with these moves?
