OpenAI announced a new $110 billion investment round led by Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank, according to company statements and Reuters reporting. The company said the financing is structured at a $730 billion pre-money valuation, while Reuters reported the implied post-money valuation would be approximately $840 billion.

The capital represents committed investments, some of which are structured in tranches and subject to conditions rather than immediate full cash transfers.

TL;DR

  • OpenAI announces $110B in committed investment.
  • $730B pre-money valuation, approximately $840B implied post-money per Reuters.
  • Amazon commits $50B, structured in phased tranches.
  • Some funding subject to conditions and milestone-based deployment.
  • Capital aimed at infrastructure, training, and AI platform scaling.

OpenAI stated that the $110 billion represents new committed investment intended to expand research, infrastructure, and product deployment. The company described the round as strengthening its balance sheet amid accelerating demand across consumer, developer, and enterprise segments.

According to OpenAI, the round is priced at a $730 billion pre-money valuation. Reuters reported that the transaction structure implies a post-money valuation of approximately $840 billion once the full committed capital is accounted for.

The company clarified that portions of the funding are structured commitments rather than immediate lump-sum transfers. Reuters reported that Amazon’s $50 billion participation includes an initial $15 billion investment, with an additional $35 billion to follow subject to specified conditions.

OpenAI said Amazon Web Services will become the exclusive third-party cloud distribution provider for OpenAI Frontier, its enterprise AI platform. However, the company also confirmed that Microsoft Azure remains the exclusive cloud provider for stateless OpenAI APIs and that OpenAI’s first-party products will continue to be hosted on Azure under the existing partnership.

In infrastructure terms, OpenAI said it plans to consume approximately 2 gigawatts of Trainium-powered capacity through AWS to support advanced workloads. Reuters separately reported that OpenAI would utilize 2 gigawatts of computing capacity powered by Amazon’s Trainium chips.

On the Nvidia partnership, OpenAI said it is expanding collaboration to include 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity and 2 gigawatts of training capacity on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems. The company did not specify the financial breakdown associated with this infrastructure expansion.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said, “We’re pushing the frontier across infrastructure, research, and products to make AI more capable, reliable, and broadly useful. SoftBank, NVIDIA, and Amazon are long-term partners who share our ambition to turn real scientific progress into systems that deliver meaningful benefits for people at global scale.”

OpenAI also disclosed updated usage metrics, stating that ChatGPT now serves more than 900 million weekly active users, with over 50 million consumer subscribers and more than 9 million paying business users.

Reuters noted that the scale of the round places OpenAI among the most highly valued private technology companies globally. However, the company did not state that the full $110 billion has already been received, and parts of the funding are expected to be deployed over time and subject to contractual milestones.

The investment reflects long-term capital commitments aimed at scaling compute capacity, accelerating frontier model research, and expanding enterprise AI deployment, rather than a single immediate cash infusion.
