At the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Maharashtra Resident Commissioner R. Vimala emphasized that artificial intelligence is not just for a “privileged few,” but has the potential to benefit “every farmer in every corner of the Global South.” The announcement came during the launch of a compendium featuring 26 ground-breaking studies that highlight practical ways AI is already helping farmers.
R Vimala pointed to real examples where technology is making a tangible difference. In Kashmir, cows are wearing smart necklaces that can spot infections early, helping farmers take quick action and prevent bigger losses. Satellites are being used to predict sugarcane sweetness with 95% accuracy, so farmers can decide the best time to harvest and get better returns.
