Overall Rating
Cash App launched a new feature aimed at simplifying peer to peer transactions by making it easier to request money through shareable payment links.

These links can be shared anywhere you could possibly share links, spanning text, email, social media and messaging apps.

The update is designed to reduce friction in everyday payments and make money requests feel more natural within existing conversations.

TL;DR

  • Users can now generate shareable payment links directly from the Cash App payment tab
  • Links can be sent via text, email, social media, and messaging apps
  • 53% of Gen Z send reminder texts before requests, 49% follow up after, according to a 2024 Cash App survey
  • Links are reusable for group and recurring payments
  • Available to eligible personal and Cash App for Business accounts

Cash App is positioning its latest feature, payment links, as a more seamless way to request money without relying solely on in app notifications or push alerts.

Instead of manually selecting a recipient within the app, users can now create a unique link tied to a specific payment request and share it wherever they are already communicating.

The move follows insights from a 2024 survey commissioned by Cash App, which found that 53% of Gen Z respondents send a reminder text before submitting a payment request, while 49% send a follow up message afterward. These extra steps often add unnecessary back and forth to simple transactions.

By allowing requests to be embedded directly into text messages, emails, social media posts, and direct messages, Cash App aims to streamline the experience and remove the social friction that can accompany asking someone for money.

TechDogs-"An Image Depicting Cash App's Payment Links Feature"
“Payment links make moving money even more seamless, but just as importantly they make the task of requesting money feel more human and less awkward,” said Kristen Anderson, P2P & Networks Product Lead at Cash App.

“We’ve heard from our customers that sending in-app payment requests and push notifications can sometimes come across overly formal or even passive aggressive. Payment links solve this by allowing customers to send requests through whichever platform feels most natural so that they can add context, levity, or humor to the conversation.”

Reusable Payment Links Support Group And Recurring Transactions

To use the feature, customers navigate to the Cash App payment tab and follow the standard request flow. Instead of choosing “add recipient,” they can select the “share link” option, which generates a unique payment URL. When a recipient taps the link, it opens Cash App with a pre filled payment that includes the requested amount and note, allowing them to complete the transaction in seconds.

Notably, the links are reusable. This makes them suitable for group expenses such as splitting dinner bills, collecting funds for events, or handling recurring costs like shared subscriptions or rent. A single link can be distributed to multiple recipients without having to recreate a request each time.

The feature is now available to all eligible Cash App customers, including Cash App for Business accounts. By expanding the flexibility of how payment requests are delivered, Cash App is leaning into a broader trend of blending financial tools into everyday digital interactions.

Rather than introducing a complex new workflow, the company has focused on adapting to existing communication habits. As digital payments continue to become embedded in daily life, features like payment links reflect a shift toward contextual, conversation driven financial exchanges that prioritize ease, speed, and user comfort.
