Overall Rating

Apple finally officially unveild a new entry-level laptop called MacBook Neo, bringing Apple silicon performance, a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, and up to 16 hours of battery life at a starting price of $599.

The device is positioned as Apple’s most affordable MacBook to date.

The reveal came as part of Apple's event week, and was announced as the first reveal on the main day on March 4.

Before the official release, rumors were rife about the new cheaper MacBook codenamed Neo, thanks to a few regulatory filing publishings that were later deleted, which spoke of a new unnamed device.

This year's event breaks from its traditional keynote-style livestream. Instead of hosting a single broadcast event, the company is organizing what it calls a “special Apple Experience” for invited media across New York, London, and Shanghai.

Meanwhile, the general public can follow along digitally as Apple publishes announcements throughout the day via its Newsroom and official social media channels.

TL;DR

  • Apple introduced the MacBook Neo as its most affordable MacBook yet.
  • The laptop features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, A18 Pro chip, and up to 16 hours of battery life.
  • It runs macOS Tahoe and supports Apple Intelligence features across apps.
  • Pricing starts at $599, or $499 for education customers.
  • Pre-orders begin immediately with availability starting March 11.

MacBook Neo Colors, Availability, And Pricing

MacBook Neo features an aluminum enclosure and weighs about 2.7 pounds, making it portable enough to carry in backpacks or handbags.

The laptop will be available in four colors: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. Apple has extended these color themes to the keyboard and wallpapers to create a consistent design across the device.

Pricing begins at $599 in the United States, with a discounted education price of $499.

Customers can pre-order MacBook Neo starting immediately through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app across 30 countries and regions, including the United States. The laptop will begin shipping and appear in Apple retail stores and authorized resellers starting March 11.

Apple also said the MacBook Neo was designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating 60 percent recycled materials and manufacturing processes that reduce aluminum usage while increasing the use of renewable electricity across its supply chain.

13-Inch Liquid Retina Display And Built-In Camera, Audio, And Connectivity

The standout feature is that the MacBook Neo includes two USB-C ports that support charging and external displays, a headphone jack for wired audio, Wi-Fi 6E for wireless networking, and Bluetooth 6 for accessories.

It comes with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408 by 1506, brightness of up to 500 nits, and support for one billion colors.

Apple says the screen delivers sharper text and brighter visuals compared with many laptops in the same price segment. An anti-reflective coating is also included to improve visibility in different lighting conditions.

The laptop also features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with improved image processing for video calls, along with dual microphones designed to reduce background noise and isolate a user’s voice.

Audio is delivered through dual side-firing speakers that support Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos, providing immersive sound when watching videos, listening to music, or using creative applications.

MacBook Neo Features A18 Pro Chip, AI Capabilities, And 16-Hour Battery Life

At the center of the MacBook Neo is Apple’s A18 Pro chip, which powers everyday tasks such as browsing, document creation, streaming media, and photo editing.

The company says the chip also supports artificial intelligence features that run directly on the device.

Apple claims the system is up to 50 percent faster for everyday tasks such as web browsing compared with a bestselling PC using the latest Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. For AI workloads performed on the device, the laptop can reportedly run up to three times faster.

The chip includes a 5-core GPU designed to support graphics-heavy tasks and gaming, along with a 16-core Neural Engine that powers Apple Intelligence features and other machine learning tasks.

MacBook Neo also operates without a fan, allowing the laptop to run silently while performing routine workloads. Battery life is rated at up to 16 hours on a single charge, enabling users to work, study, or stream media throughout the day without needing to plug in.

Magic Keyboard, Trackpad, And macOS Integration With iPhone

MacBook Neo ships with Apple’s Magic Keyboard and a large Multi-Touch trackpad that supports gestures such as scrolling, swiping, and pinch-to-zoom.

Some configurations include Touch ID, allowing users to log in securely and authorize Apple Pay purchases using fingerprint authentication.

The laptop runs macOS Tahoe, Apple’s operating system for Mac computers, which includes built-in apps such as Messages, Pages, Safari, and Calendar. Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools and Live Translation are integrated across the operating system.

For users who also own an iPhone, macOS offers Continuity features such as Handoff and Universal Clipboard, enabling tasks to move between devices and allowing content to be copied from one device and pasted on another.

Apple Introduces MacBook Neo As Its Most Affordable MacBook

Apple's MacBook Neo is a new laptop designed to expand access to the Mac ecosystem by lowering the price barrier while retaining key elements of Apple’s hardware and software experience.

The device combines Apple silicon performance, macOS capabilities, and a redesigned aluminum chassis aimed at durability and portability. Apple says the laptop is intended for a broad group of users, including students, families, small business owners, and first-time Mac users.

“We’re incredibly excited to introduce MacBook Neo, which delivers the magic of the Mac at a breakthrough price. Built from the ground up to be more affordable for even more people, MacBook Neo is a laptop only Apple could create,” said John Ternus, Apple’s SVP of Hardware Engineering.

“It features a durable aluminum design in four beautiful colors; a brilliant Liquid Retina display; Apple silicon-powered performance; all-day battery life; a high-quality camera, mics, and speakers; a Magic Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad; and the intuitive and powerful features of macOS. There is simply no other laptop like it.”

According to Apple, the device was built specifically to offer a more accessible entry point into the Mac lineup without removing core features typically associated with the platform.
