What Is Wireshark?
Wireshark is the equivalent of a supervillain spyglass. A spy who loves watching over what you do, where you go, and what you have been watching. It's a network protocol analyzer that lets you quickly see all the traffic on your network, and it's free! Wireshark is a network or protocol analyzer that helps you capture, view and analyze packets on the web. It's available for free on the Wireshark website. It can explore different network protocols, including IPv4, IPv6, Ethernet and 802.11 wireless LANs. Wireshark employs the GTK+ widget toolkit and pcap for packet capturing. You can use Wireshark to view all the traffic being passed over your network, which can help you troubleshoot problems quickly and easily. In addition, Wireshark lets you see all the traffic passing over your network in real-time, including audio streams from Skype calls or VoIP calls from Google Hangouts or Yahoo Messenger, so you'll know what's causing any problems with your connection! Wireshark is a versatile tool that captures, analyzes, and manipulates data transmitted through a computer network. It supports live data reading and analysis for Ethernet, IEEE 802.11, point-to-point Protocol (PPP), loopback, and other types of networks. The user can use the GUI or different versions of Wireshark to browse captured data, which can be programmatically edited and converted with command-line switches. Display filters are also used to filter and organize the data display. These New protocols can be increasingly and efficiently scrutinized by creating plug-ins. Captured traffic can also help trace Voice over Internet (VoIP) calls over the given network. It is also unique to capturing raw USB traffic when using Linux. Refrain from getting lost in all those wires. Wireshark uses display filters to show only relevant information on the screen!
