What Is Wireless Distribution System (WDS)?
In the world of WiFi, Wireless Distribution System (or WDS) is an unsung hero. Not as popular as its more well-known relative, regular WiFi, but no less effective, especially in emergencies. What exactly is WDS, and how does it work? As the name implies, it eliminates the need for physical cables by allowing you to connect multiple wireless routers. A router's ability to communicate with another router and share an internet connection is similar to a secret handshake. WiFi, in its more common form, can be compared to a single megaphone, with which all nearby devices can listen in on your internet connection. WDS, however, acts as a collection of megaphones to boost the signal and make it farther away from gadgets. You can set up WDS between two wireless access points by configuring WDS on both the primary (main) and secondary (WDS) access points. The primary router will serve as the network's primary access point (AP), while the WDS APs will perform bridge duties and aid in expanding the network's reach. WDS can also be used to set up a Mesh network, which involves linking multiple access points to form a large coverage area and providing seamless, uninterrupted service to all of your mobile devices, regardless of where they may be. When you need to cover a large area, like a park or parking lot, WDS is your best bet. This is especially true in large buildings. It can also be helpful if you need a stronger WiFi signal in some parts of your home due to living in a rural or urban area with inconsistent WiFi coverage. WDS is a great option for extending wireless networks in large areas or when WiFi coverage is spotty because it acts like a secret network of routers, amplifying your internet signal and providing better coverage. #WDS #WirelessDistributionSystem #MeshNetwork
