It's a public policy coalition that supports and provides advocacy for the Internet communication device and technology industry. That means its members provide software and equipment manufacturers that lobby regulators to ensure that the distribution of IP communications remains free of government regulations that have traditionally been applied to telephone service. It gets better! VON is the Voice on the Net Coalition if you want to get involved in this exciting field. The VON Coalition is an open and nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization following the IRS. So what does that mean? If you want to help ensure that your Voice will be heard loud and clear on the Internet, then it's time to join VON! Educating the media, regulators and legislators on Internet communications issues, recommending regulation and legislation, and facilitating industry membership discussion regarding crucial regulatory and policy matters are ways we help ensure your Voice is heard loud and clear on the Internet. The Voice on the Net Coalition has been around since 1996 when it was developed by Jeff Pulver, a pioneer in Internet communications who helped create tools like ICQ and Skype. He saw that these new technologies would change the world and wanted to ensure regulators didn't get in their way! Today, VON's mission is simple: to ensure that Internet communications remain free from government regulations that have traditionally been applied to telephone service because those regulations would stifle innovation and prevent the next generation of great ideas from coming into being.
