What Is Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG)?
Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) are the new hotness. If you're not already playing one, you need to be. If you are already playing one, you know what we're talking about. If you have any interest in gaming, you've probably heard of MMOGs. The acronym stands for "Massively Multiplayer Online Game," and they're just what they sound like: games that allow many players to participate simultaneously over an internet connection. These games usually occur in a shared world that the gamer can access after purchasing or installing the game software. The explosive growth in MMOGs has prompted many game designers to build online multiplayer modes into many traditionally single-player games. MMOGs take the single-player experience and add multiplayer capabilities so that hundreds of players can play together in a shared world; the result is a more immersive game than ever before. The best MMOGs allow players to interact in real-time as they explore their virtual worlds together—and that's just the beginning! MMOGs are often massively social, with millions of players joining together to battle in massive wars or to explore fantastic realms. Many of these games offer a subscription service that gives you access to new content as it becomes available and other perks such as improved equipment or access to particular in-game locations. Some of the most popular MMOGs have millions of subscribers worldwide, with a healthy percentage of those people playing the games daily! Do you know what's better than a single-player game? A massively multiplayer online game. Do you know what's better than that? A massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). But you know what's even better than that? An MMORPG in which you can play as a ninja, a wizard, or even a space marine (okay, maybe not that last one) and that is what the genre of MMOGs has to offer.
