What Is LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM)?
Imagine a world where you can monitor the configuration and status of connected equipment such as personal computers, workstations and printers from a central location. Now stop imagining. It's possible. LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) is an Intel software product for the administrators of local area networks (LAN) to monitor the configuration and status of connected equipment such as personal computers, workstations and printers. This product provides an easy way to monitor your network's security, performance and compliance with company policies. LANDesk used to be a company. It was a company that made software for managing IT systems and was pretty good at it. They had customers worldwide and were doing well for themselves. But then, in 2009, LANDesk got bought by Emerson Electric—a big, old-school industrial giant that didn't know what to do with LANDesk's software. Emerson just wanted to sell more servers, which is OK for an old-school industrial giant like Emerson but not so great for a company like LANDesk specializing in IT management. So there was no more LANDesk Software—at least not until August 2010, when Thomas Bravo LLC bought up all the assets of LANDesk Software and announced their intention to make it an independent company again! LDCM was the software that made you look like a superhero. You'd be sitting at your desk, and suddenly, your client manager would start chirping. You'd look at the monitor and see that your system CPU temperature was rising, so you'd quickly launch LDCM to check out what was happening. You'd see it as a virus and quarantine it before anything could happen. You'd then yell, "I'm coming for you, evil computer virus!" as you ran off to get coffee. After a few minutes of coffee drinking, you'd return to find no more viruses lurking around—your client manager had destroyed them all!
