What Is Greenware?
It's time to start thinking about your carbon footprint. No, not that big, ugly one you've been lugging around for years—the one following you and making everyone else uncomfortable. We're talking about the carbon footprint you leave behind with your software licenses. What if there was a way to balance out all those extra print jobs, all of those extra copies of Microsoft Office, all of those additional downloads of Adobe Acrobat? Is there a way to leave your clients with a smile on their faces and not just frown? That's where Greenware comes in. Greenware is a software license that provides users access to a program or its source code in exchange for an environmentally friendly effort, such as recycling, replacing standard lightbulbs with energy-saving ones or switching to recycled computer paper. Greenware is similar to Software as a Service (SaaS) in that the user only needs a web browser to use the Software or access its source code. However, unlike SaaS, Greenware does not require an internet connection and does not involve any monthly fees. The Greenware license is not limited to Software but can be applied to any digital product. The idea is that the more you contribute to reducing your environmental footprint, the more you can use the product. There are many ways in which you can help reduce your carbon footprint and contribute positively to the environment. Everyone's Greenware these days. But you know what we're talking about. It's that thing that's all about reducing your environmental impact and making the world a better place for everyone, whether you're making a difference by taking your reusable bag to the grocery store or going one step further by getting rid of plastic straws altogether. It's not just about recycling or reusing—it's about making intelligent choices about what you're buying and where it comes from. That's why we've created our line of plant-based packaging geared toward consumers: Greenware®.
