What Is Front-End System?
The front-end system is the pretty face of your information system. It's the part that interacts with you, and it's the part that helps you access and request features from the back-end system. If your front-end system is a software application, it's like a fancy doorbell—it makes sure you don't have to knock on the door yourself, and it lets you know if someone else is at the door so you can decide whether or not to answer it. Suppose your front-end system is hardware, software and network resources combined. In that case, it's like an apartment building with a doorman who knows everyone's name in the building—it makes sure they get their packages when they're expecting them, and it tells them when there's someone at the door who wants to come inside. Front-end systems are the ones that do all the talking. They're the ones who go out and get you what you want. They're the ones who bring you a drink and sing along with you at karaoke, give you a hug when your dog dies, and sit through an entire episode of Friends with you to ensure that everything's okay. They're the ones who will listen to your problems and help you solve them—even if they have no idea what the situation is or how to solve it themselves! Front ends are there for us in our darkest moments when we need someone to come along and put their arm around us and say, "everything is going to be okay". They're there when we need someone to support us as we learn new skills or tackle new challenges and they're there when we need someone to tell us how great we are. That's why front-end systems matter so much: they're always there for us when we need them most.
