What Is Form Factor?
Form factors are the blueprint for all things technological. It is the thing that takes shape first, even before anything else. They're the blueprint that defines the specifications of the layout of a particular device, its size, number of ports, power supply type and position of components. If you've ever wondered why your computer looks like a laptop but can be transformed into a tablet, it's because they were designed to follow a specific form factor. The form factor is what you get when you combine form with function. It's how we ensure your device works as well as it looks and fits into your life. It's not just about the hardware. It's about making sure it works for you. Form factors can be standardized across various products, from small electronics to large industrial machinery. One example of this is the adoption of standard dimensions for electrical outlets. This standardization makes it easier for consumers to shop for electrical products, as they need only to identify the form factor of their desired outlet. It also makes it easier for manufacturers to produce electrical devices, as they only need to account for one set of dimensions when designing new products. Form factors define the size, shape, and measurements of products such as computers, mobile phones or any other product that needs to be made in various sizes. They are also used for connectors like USB or HDMI cables. What is a form factor? Form factors are commonly associated with electronic devices and components. For instance, we may think of cell phones and motherboards as having specific form factors. In terms of a motherboard, the form factor refers to the kind of hardware peripherals it can support and also defines the structure of the motherboard. It may also highlight some ad hoc standards.
