What Is Facebook Timeline?
Timeline! The new Facebook is all about Timeline. What is it? A timeline is a way of organizing and displaying all the information you've ever posted on Facebook. It's like an extensive, long diary that you can look back on and see how your life has changed over time. Think about it this way: If you're going through your closet and trying to decide what to keep and get rid of, do you throw everything in a pile or organize it by year? Well, now Facebook lets you manage all your information by year too! It's also more accessible than ever to find things from years ago—you can see which posts people commented on or liked when they were posted. And if someone posts something today that starts an essential conversation that needs to be continued tomorrow… well, tomorrow, it'll still be there waiting for you! Facebook Timeline is one of those changes that can make you feel like you're living in a dystopian sci-fi movie. When your friend updates her status, it pops up as a notification, and when she shares a photo, it's there for everyone to see. And if you think about it, maybe that's not such a bad thing—but then again, maybe it is. Facebook Timeline was optional at first. But in February 2012, it began rolling out to all users as they updated their Facebook accounts. While all Facebook alterations spurred user privacy worries, Facebook asserted that Timeline did not affect privacy settings and that users preserve control over who sees their updates, pictures, and other material. Facebook Timeline is a new way to tell your life story. You can curate the best moments from your day, organize them into stories and share them with friends and family. When you turn on Facebook Timeline, you'll start with a blank canvas to fill in with photos and posts — organized by year, month and week you can choose what content appears on your profile to control who sees what.
