What Is Data Obfuscation (DO)?
Data obfuscation is the art of turning a bunch of data into something that looks like it's from another planet. We all know that there are some things we don't want anyone to see. Like our bank balances or our medical records, for example. So what do you do if you're going to keep those things secret? You use data obfuscation! Data obfuscation is a form of encryption where data is deliberately scrambled to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive materials. This form of encryption results in unintelligible or confusing data that looks like it came from outer space. There are two types of DO encryption: cryptographic DO (input data encoding before being transferred to another encryption schema) and network security DO (payload attack methods are purposely enlisted to avoid detection by network protection systems). Data obfuscation is concealing data to protect it from being accessed by unauthorized parties. DO techniques are widespread from protecting sensitive health data to preventing malicious hacking and theft. However, despite the widespread use of DO and its positive effects, there are some drawbacks. One problem with data obfuscation is that it does not allow for the preservation of clusters. Any time a person tries to access a cluster of data, they will have to decrypt each piece before accessing it. This leads to what is known as "data sprawl" or "data fragmentation." Another area for improvement with DO is that there are no standards for comparing different types of DO techniques. Organizations often end up using other methods without realizing that there might be better ways for them to go about protecting their sensitive information. When it comes to data privacy, there's only so much security. The problem is that the available technology often limits protection, and in this case, the technology couldn't keep up with the times. Researchers have been working on new ways to protect your health data for years, but they've had trouble finding a way to do it without sacrificing quality. Researchers are excited about the latest development in DO techniques: Nearest Neighbor Data Substitution (NeNDS). It's an innovative method that combines old-school privacy protection methods with new ones to create something unique, keeping your information safe while still allowing access to all of its benefits!
