What Is Data Management Association (DAMA)?
DAMA is what you would love to keep your organization ticking along smoothly. The Data Management Association is a lovely little organization dedicated to ensuring you're as prepared for data management as possible. The Data Management Association (DAMA) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of data resource management (DRM) and information resource management (IRM). The organization takes care of the development and execution of procedures, practices, policies and architecture that properly manage an enterprise's entire data life cycle. DAMA was founded in 2015 by top-level data experts who saw the need for a more standardized approach to managing data in businesses worldwide. They needed more structure, transparency and accountability in how companies handled their information systems. While many groups focus on specific aspects of data management, such as security or compliance, DAMA takes a holistic approach to help businesses understand where they stand concerning all aspects of DRM/IRM at once. The Data Management Association was born in 1980 when a group of data management professionals from Los Angeles gathered to discuss their industry's challenges and opportunities. This led to the creation of the first chapter of the DAMA Data Management Association in Los Angeles. Since then, DAMA has grown into a worldwide organization with 40 branches in 16 countries. Its mission is to promote the understanding and development of data and information management practices as critical enterprise assets. This includes hosting annual conferences that bring together professionals worldwide who share an interest in these topics. The first annual conference was held in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in 1989. Today's DAMA continues its commitment to supporting professionals passionate about this field by offering educational resources and networking opportunities with professionals working in similar industries across many different countries worldwide!
