What Is Cascading Style Sheets Level 3 (CSS3)?
Cascading Style Sheets Level 3 (CSS3) is the next big thing. It's got cool new features that make your website look better, and you can use it to make your site more accessible to everyone. So, what is CSS3? CSS3 describes how a document written in HTML or XML should look and feel using style sheets. It is comparable to the instructions on how to lay out a site—where each element sits relative to other elements, how they should look, and so forth. CSS3 has some great new features, but it also has some old stuff from CSS2. CSS3 is the latest iteration of the Cascading Style Sheets specification. It's been everywhere for a while, but it's just starting to take off. A few fundamental changes in CSS3 make it more user-friendly and easier to learn. The first is that all properties have been broken down into separate modules. This makes it much easier for developers and designers alike to understand each module, which also helps them learn how to use them more quickly! The second change is that when it comes time for you to implement these modules on your website, you might not need all of them—just some! If you want your site to be compatible with older browsers (like IE6), you can leave out certain parts of CSS3 without losing any functionality. CSS3 is a single, unwieldy specification. It's not the type of thing you can read in one sitting. It's like one of those giant novels with a thousand characters and subplots that never come together. You've got to read it over several days and then return to it a few times before you understand what's going on. CSS2 is also unwieldy—huge, but it's all in one document. CSS3, on the other hand, is broken up into modules that are more manageable than the whole thing at once. So, if you want to use CSS3, you need to learn all about these things!
