What Is Broken Link?

TechDogs Avatar

The thing about broken links is that they're not always broken. We know that's a weird thing to say, but hear us out. Broken links happen you click on a link on a website that takes you to a page that doesn't exist and has been removed from the site. The result is an error message like this: "Page Not Found". But here's the thing: sometimes the page is still there! It might be in a different place than it used to be you might have gotten an old version of the site, and now it looks different than it did before, or maybe someone moved something around on purpose (or by accident). Either way, chances are good that if you look hard enough at the website's source code—and maybe even poke around in its database—you'll eventually find what you're looking for. If you don't see anything after searching every possible location on the site, that link is probably broken and needs fixing ASAP! Broken links are commonly found on websites and blogs and can be annoying for your readers if you don't take care of them. If you have an active blog or website, you will most likely come across broken links from time to time. Finding and fixing every broken link on your website can be pretty tedious, but it's an important task that you can't ignore. If you have readers who rely on your website for information and come across a broken link, they will most likely leave your site and never come back. What are the benefits of fixing broken links? Aside from improving the quality of your website, you can also increase the number of people who visit your site. Broken links are the worst. They're like a dead end on the road or a piece of furniture missing its legs. They look like they should work, but you can't get there from here. They make your website feel unprofessional and might even lead some people to think that your site is broken—which isn't suitable for anyone! That's why it's so important for web developers and designers to take care of broken links as soon as they happen before anyone can click on them.
