What Is Application Platform?
The Application Platform is the foundation of your application. It's what you build your app on. If you think of your house, the structure and framework give it shape and design while supporting all its elements and features. The foundation makes everything work together so that you can make it happen when you have a great floor plan or plan for a kitchen and bath. Similarly, an application platform is the meta-framework that allows you to create all kinds of applications without worrying about how those applications will function together or with other tools. It provides a layer of abstraction between you and those tools so that you can focus on getting things done without worrying about how they'll work together. There are various types of application platforms. Some companies specialize in a specific forum, such as mobile or web, while others allow customers to choose from multiple options. Some platforms are more flexible than others, allowing a high degree of customization. There are also open-source platforms, which can be cheaper than proprietary options. What are the key factors to consider when choosing an application platform? Regarding application platforms, there's much talk about new ways of packaging software applications in general. First, there was virtualization, in which application platforms were housed, often housed application platforms in virtual machines. A new container virtualization model has become popular, where application platforms are housed in digital constructs called containers – unlike virtual machines, containers share the kernel of a client operating system. It allows for more efficient multi-tenancy on a server. You might have heard some people say that containers are "just like VMs but without the overhead. " That's not entirely true. The truth is that containers are great at controlling resource allocation and isolation but only do a little else.
