What Is AppleTalk Filing Protocol (AFP)?
Do you like to keep much stuff on your mind? Do you want to be able to access all of it at the same time? Do you want to be able to use that information in different ways, depending on how much time you have and how much room there is for creativity? The AFP is for you! AFP is architecture-based system hardware and software for creating, formatting, viewing, retrieving, printing and distributing information on numerous printers and display devices. AFP composes an entire page before publishing it. The page elements in AFP, such as text, bar codes, page segments, images and overlays, can be specified in any order and at any position on the page. AFP operates independently of other applications and devices. AFP is a standard that can make your printer do the impossible. AFP can print data at very high speeds with complete integrity and incorporate various other industry formats such as EPS, PDF, TIFF, GIF, JPEG, XML, XSL, PostScript, PCL and PPML. As such, this standard can cover the entire range of text, image text, image, graphics and process color printing. It can also print on a standard device and deliver the contents using email or HTML. If you're a fan of advanced-function presentation (AFP), you might have heard of all-point addressability (APA). If not, don't worry, I'll explain it to you. APA is a process by which the page elements in AFP, such as text and images, are specified in any order and at any position on the page. This can be considered an unusual way to print pages with text and images since most printers require the data for each page to be sent in a specific order which isn't how APA works! It gets even better: Printer-independent data streams that compose total pages within documents are called advanced-function presentation data streams! AFP uses resources that make up these streams. If you're looking for a way to make your printer do the impossible, then some AFP is precisely what you need!
