Artificial intelligence has already changed industries and continues to do so.

This week alone, three stories from tech giants and emerging startups reveal how AI is weaving itself into everyday life.

Meta is experimenting with how we watch short videos; DoorDash is reinventing how we choose where to eat, and a Latin American startup is rethinking how doctors talk to patients.

TL; DR

  • Meta is rolling out Instagram for TV, debuting Reels on Amazon Fire TV devices in the U.S. as an early test phase.

  • DoorDash has launched Zesty, an AI-powered social app for restaurant discovery, now piloting in key U.S. cities.

  • Leona Health, founded by a former Uber Eats executive, raised $14 million from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) to bring AI structure to doctor–patient WhatsApp communication across Latin America.

Meta’s Instagram Reels Comes To The Big Screen

Meta has officially begun testing Instagram for TV, a dedicated app that lets users watch Reels on larger screens, starting with Amazon Fire TV devices in the U.S.

The app curates short-form videos into themed channels and allows browsing by creator and interest. While expansion to other smart TV platforms, such as Samsung and Apple TV, is expected, the rollout is currently exclusive to Fire TV as Meta tests user engagement and format fit.

The move marks Meta’s continued expansion into lean-back entertainment, positioning Reels as a potential rival to TikTok TV and YouTube Shorts. Although Meta hasn’t released detailed viewer metrics, Reels has been among Instagram’s fastest-growing features, with engagement reportedly up more than 40% year over year.

Ultimately, it seems Meta wants to make Reels an experience you can enjoy not just in your hand but also on your couch.

In another industry pivot, DoorDash has something for the community.

DoorDash’s Zesty Adds A Pinch Of AI To Restaurant Discovery

DoorDash has launched Zesty, a standalone AI social app that helps users discover restaurants through personalized suggestions and community content.

Zesty uses AI to recommend dining options based on user preferences, reviews, and location data. It is designed to inspire dining choices both online and offline.

“A doctor who sees 20 patients during the day, gets home, has 100 messages and is expected to answer immediately…”, said Caroline Merin to TechCrunch.

The app allows users to explore trending restaurants, view visual content, and follow other food lovers. While features such as influencer feeds and collaborative maps may expand later, Zesty’s pilot rollout currently focuses on major markets such as San Francisco and New York, with wider availability expected in 2026.

As competition in the AI-driven local discovery space intensifies, Zesty marks DoorDash’s shift from logistics to lifestyle, turning restaurant choice into a social experience.

Whilst all of this is happening, another sector is turning to AI for help. Healthcare.

Leona Health Raises $14M To Fix WhatsApp Overload for Doctors

Meanwhile, in Latin America’s fast-growing healthtech scene, Leona Health has raised $14 million in seed funding led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).

Founded by Caroline Merin, a former Uber Eats and Rappi executive, the startup is tackling a problem unique to the region: doctors relying on WhatsApp to manage everything from appointments to lab results, often in cluttered, unsecured chat threads.

Leona Health’s AI platform connects directly with WhatsApp to sort, prioritize, and summarize medical messages, offering a layer of structure without disrupting familiar workflows.

The system can automatically categorize patient inquiries, highlight urgent messages, and even suggest responses.

The company plans to use the funding to expand across Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia, targeting clinics that still depend on informal chat-based operations. With healthcare digitization still emerging in the region, Leona Health’s approach could become a blueprint for AI adoption in developing markets.

What’s In It For Consumers?

Three very different products, one shared thread: AI is moving beyond novelty into necessity. Whether it’s helping you binge short videos, choose dinner, or manage patient messages, these innovations share a goal: making everyday decisions faster, easier, and more personal.

As AI shifts from enterprise hype to daily habits, companies like Meta, DoorDash, and Leona Health aren’t just showing what’s possible; they’re showing what’s next.
