Joby Aviation said its autonomous J208 completed what it calls the first fully autonomous flight across the United States, finishing the eastbound leg of its tour in North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

The aircraft is a converted Cessna Caravan equipped with Joby’s autonomy technology. It departed from Concord, California, and completed the transcontinental trip without any control input from the safety pilot onboard.

The milestone followed Joby’s launch of a month-long coast-to-coast tour designed to demonstrate the system in real-world conditions. Joby said remote supervision came from its autonomy headquarters in California and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.
