This includes investments made by venture capital firms, new companies being set up and existing companies joining the sector.
However, it’s the last few months that have seen the eVTOL industry get a big push, with companies showing off their concept vehicles, prototypes, design ideas and associated infrastructure and technology.
Among these companies is Eve Air Mobility, which recently revealed its newest prototype to much admiration, a move made among other important announcements.
So, let's explore what Eve Air Mobility's new eVTOL prototype is all about!
What Did Eve Air Mobility Reveal About Its Prototype?
-
At the 45th Farnborough Airshow Eve Air Mobility unveiled its first full-scale eVTOL prototype, which was being built at its parent company Embraer’s test facility in Gaviao Peixoto, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
-
As per a news release about the unveiling, the eVTOL makes use of eight dedicated propellers to take off vertically, which are laid out across fixed wings on either side of the main cabin.
-
While the prototype doesn’t include a cabin, the final eVTOL will seat four passengers and a pilot.
-
The aircraft comes with an electric pusher powered by dual electric motors that offer the highest levels of performance, safety and dispatch reliability, with a low cost of operation.
-
Eve Air Mobility is a subsidiary of Embraer Aircraft Holding, Inc., which is owned by Embraer S.A., a Brazilian multinational aerospace corporation that develops and manufactures aircraft and aviation systems as well as offers leasing, equipment and technical support services.
-
Embraer is the third largest producer of civil aircraft worldwide, following Boeing and Airbus.
-
This allows Eve to take advantage of Embraer’s 55 years of experience of developing, designing and certifying aircraft.
-
Furthermore, Eve’s customers will also benefit by gaining access to Embraer’s global network of service and support locations.
-
Currently, the company has letters of intent for 2,900 eVTOLs and is targeting to obtain its FAA (U.S. Federal Aviation Administration) and ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil) certification by 2026.
-
Ahead of unveiling its prototype, Eve also announced it completed the selection of primary suppliers for its eVTOL aircraft, taking the development process into the next phase.
-
This follows a series of tests conducted to ascertain the aircraft’s performance, quality, operation, flight capabilities and safety features.
What Did The CEO Of Eve Air Mobility Say?
-
Johann Bordais, the CEO of Eve Air Mobility, said, “Our global team of engineers have shown exceptional dedication and expertise to successfully assemble our first full-scale eVTOL prototype. This is a significant milestone that underscores our commitment to safety, accessibility and innovation.”
-
“As we now turn our attention toward the preparation of a rigorous testing campaign, we are not just creating an aircraft, we’re building a comprehensive ecosystem of solutions that will shape the future of the Advanced Air Mobility industry.”
-
“This extensive testing phase begins the next fundamental step in our journey. It ensures that our eVTOL meets the high standards and expectations we’ve set for performance and safety.”

What Else Did Eve Air Mobility Announce?
-
Through a news release, Eve announced it had named Diehl Aviation as the designer and producer of interior and ASE as the supplier for the power distribution system for its eVTOL aircraft.
-
Diehl Aviation is an industry leader in the design, development and production of integrated solutions for aircraft cabins, while ASE is a world-class supplier of electrical power systems for the aerospace and defense industry.
-
Following this, Eve also announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens Smart Infrastructure, a manufacturer of electrical and digital technologies and solutions.
-
The partnership will see the two companies collaborate to evaluate the electrical infrastructure and energy management services needed to support safe, efficient and scalable eVTOL operations.
-
In the beginning of July, Eve announced it had secured additional funding; $94M in new equity financing from multiple investors, including parent company Embraer, Nidec and additional financial investors.
-
The funding includes the issuance of new shares of common stock and warrants and fulfils the company’s cash needs till 2027.
Do you think this move will help boost interest in Eve Air Mobility's eVTOLs? Do you think other companies can rival Eve with similar moves?
