Google Photos has completed the rollout of a more visible search control that lets users move between Gemini-powered Ask Photos and the app’s classic search experience without opening settings or disabling artificial intelligence features entirely.

Google’s updated support documentation says Ask Photos begins by showing a page of relevant results. Straightforward searches such as “beach” or “dog” may not require additional processing, but Gemini models can continue working in the background when users submit more complex prompts.
Examples include asking for photos that would make suitable phone backgrounds or requesting information about meals from a particular trip. Users can move between the classic and Ask Photos results at any time using the new control.
People who have not opted in to Ask Photos will continue to use classic search by default. Google may display a toggle that invites them to try the AI-powered experience, but they must complete the opt-in process before it becomes active.
Ask Photos remains an experimental feature and is not available in every region. Google also warns that it can return unexpected or inaccurate results, with functionality varying based on location, language and account eligibility.
