Overall Rating
In recent years, social media platforms have been evolving beyond just connecting people. Many are experimenting with in-app services from streaming to shopping to keep users engaged and create new revenue streams. The line between social networks and digital service hubs is blurring, and the next big step seems to be integrating financial services directly into these platforms.

TL;DR

  • Elon Musk says X Money will enter early public access next month.
  • The digital wallet is part of his plan to turn X into an “everything app.”
  • Users may soon send money, pay creators, and shop directly within the app.

Elon Musk on Tuesday announced that X Money, the digital payment system for X (formerly Twitter), will enter early public access next month. The step is part of Musk’s vision to transform X into an “everything app,” combining messaging, media, streaming, and now payments in a single platform.

The billionaire, who bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion and later rebranded it as X, has repeatedly spoken about turning the platform into an “everything app,” similar to China’s WeChat. The rollout of X Money appears to be a clear step in that direction, bringing financial services into the social media experience.

At first, X Money is expected to function like a simple digital wallet that allows users to send money to each other almost as easily as sending a direct message. Over time, the feature could grow into something much broader. Users may be able to pay creators, shop directly within the app, handle bills, purchase subscriptions, or receive payments without leaving the platform.

Some early hints also suggest that the platform could explore more advanced financial tools in the future. These could include savings options with higher yields, access to loans, money market-style accounts, and even crypto-related features.

Musk has been gradually expanding X’s capabilities by adding new features while pushing the idea of a single platform that handles multiple everyday tasks. As part of this effort, X partnered with Visa last year to support secure and direct payment services for users, laying the groundwork for the launch of X Money.

With early access expected soon, many will be watching how it performs. If successful, it could move X a step closer to becoming the all-in-one digital platform Musk has long envisioned where people can communicate, consume content, and make transactions in one place.
