Hey, news buffs!

The White House has locked down commitments from eight more AI companies to ensure responsible and ethical development of AI.

The Biden-Harris administration revealed that it has secured a second wave of voluntary safety agreements from eight major AI businesses, following pledges from corporations like Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Meta and more.

Attendees at the White House event came from eight AI-centric companies, namely Adobe, Cohere, IBM, Nvidia, Palantir, Salesforce, Scale AI and Stability. These eight corporations have committed to becoming instrumental in the advancement of trustworthy, secure and safe AI.

To ensure that the United States takes the lead in responsible AI development and realises its potential while mitigating its hazards, the Biden-Harris administration is working on an Executive Order and pursuing bipartisan legislation.

Safety, security and trust are at the heart of the promises given by these AI businesses.

So, what exactly have these AI corporations promised?

  • Ensuring Products Are Safe Before Public Introduction

Before releasing their AI systems to the general public, the businesses promise to subject them to extensive internal and external security testing. Expert evaluations play a role in protecting against potential biosecurity, cyber security and societal hazards associated with AI.

In addition, they will actively disseminate knowledge on AI risk management to government agencies, nonprofits, academic institutions and businesses worldwide. As part of this cooperative effort, experts will share safety best practises, report on attempts to bypass protections and work together on the technology.

  • Building AI Systems With Security As A Top Priority

To preserve confidential model weights, these corporations have committed to increasing spending on cybersecurity and insider threat prevention. They acknowledge the vital necessity of these model weights in AI systems and pledge to only release them as intended and when all security concerns have been resolved.

In addition, they will make it easier for outside parties to find and report flaws in their AI systems. This preventative measure guarantees that problems may be found and fixed quickly, even after an AI system has been put into operation. • Earning The Public’s Trust Through Ethical Practices

Companies will create robust technical mechanisms, such as AI watermarking systems, to denote when information is AI-generated to increase transparency and accountability. The goal of this measure is to lessen the likelihood of misinformation.

They will also publicly report the risks and the security of their AI systems to society, as well as ensuring the inappropriate uses of their AI systems. In addition, these eight businesses have promised to reduce harmful prejudice and discrimination in AI systems a top priority.

So, what’s next?

The Biden-Harris Administration is consulting with a wide range of international partners and allies as part of its efforts to fulfil these objectives. These pledges are in addition to international efforts like the UK's AI Safety Summit, Japan's G-7 Hiroshima Process and India's Global Partnership on AI Chair.

With business leaders and the government working together to guarantee that AI technology helps society while limiting its inherent hazards, the announcement represents a key milestone in the march towards responsible AI development.

As the White House corrals commitments from eight more AI companies, are we on the brink of a brighter, safer AI future?
