Tesla Wants People & Businesses To Buy & Run Cybercab Fleets

Tesla has spent years talking about operating a massive fleet of autonomous robotaxis.

Now, it appears people and businesses could get a chance to join the action by buying Cybercab fleets of their own.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker has opened a Robotaxi interest form inviting interested parties to explore future opportunities involving Cybercab fleet vehicle purchasing, mobility infrastructure, and more.

While it does not confirm that Tesla will sell Cybercabs to outside operators, it offers an interesting glimpse into how the company could expand its Robotaxi network.

Tesla Opens Cybercab Fleet Purchasing Interest To People And Businesses

Tesla’s Robotaxi page asks interested parties to complete a form to be considered for future opportunities associated with its autonomous vehicle network.

Applicants are asked for details including their first and last names, contact information, company name, deployment region, and additional information.

More importantly, Tesla provides four choices under “I am interested in”:

• Cybercab fleet vehicle purchasing
• Mobility hubs and infrastructure
• Event collaboration
• Other

Cybercab fleet vehicle purchasing is easily the most eye-catching option.

Tesla has so far focused on testing and operating its own Robotaxi fleet, first using Model Y vehicles before expanding its plans around the purpose-built Cybercab.

Now, asking people and businesses whether they are interested in purchasing Cybercab fleets hints that Tesla could eventually bring third-party operators into its autonomous transportation network.
 

 

Tesla Could Use Third-Party Cybercab Fleets To Expand Its Robotaxi Network

This does not mean Cybercabs are suddenly available for anyone to purchase.

Tesla describes the page as a way to “Help Us Build Our Robotaxi Network” and only says applicants will be considered for future Robotaxi opportunities. It has not announced a commercial fleet sales program or explained who would qualify to purchase Cybercabs.

Still, the move adds another dimension to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s long-running autonomous ride-hailing ambitions.

Earlier versions of Musk’s vision centered on Tesla owners adding their personally owned autonomous vehicles to a ride-sharing network and earning money while their cars were otherwise sitting unused.

That idea did not materialize as originally envisioned, with Tesla instead moving toward operating its own Robotaxi services.
 

The new interest form could signal another approach.

Rather than Tesla owning and operating every vehicle in its Robotaxi network, people, businesses, and specialized fleet operators could potentially purchase Cybercabs and contribute vehicles or infrastructure to help the network grow.

It could also give Tesla another way to scale into more markets without carrying the entire burden of purchasing vehicles and establishing supporting infrastructure itself.

However, several important details remain unanswered.

Tesla has not disclosed Cybercab fleet pricing, minimum purchasing requirements, eligibility criteria, operational responsibilities, or whether outside buyers would actually be permitted to independently run Cybercab fleets.

For now, Tesla is simply finding out who is interested.

Yet, by explicitly putting “Cybercab fleet vehicle purchasing” on the table, the company is showing that its long-term Robotaxi plans may involve far more than a fleet controlled exclusively by Tesla.
