Overall Rating

Spotify wants podcast fans to pay for more than just bonus episodes, and creators get to keep 90% of the revenue!

The streaming giant has launched paid podcast Memberships across 34 markets, giving eligible creators new ways to offer exclusive content, personalized perks, and subscriber-only experiences.

Interestingly, even smaller podcasters can qualify, while fans won't need a Spotify Premium subscription to join.

TL;DR

  • Spotify launched paid podcast Memberships on October 20, 2026, across 34 markets, with creators retaining 90% of membership revenue.
  • Podcasters can offer exclusive audio and video, early access, fewer ads, bonus episodes, and multiple membership tiers.
  • Eligible shows need just three episodes, 100 listeners or viewers, and 100 consumption hours within the previous 30 days.

Spotify Memberships Offer Exclusive Podcast Content And Fan Perks

Unlike traditional podcast subscriptions built primarily around bonus episodes, Memberships allow creators to combine different benefits into customized subscription packages.

These include exclusive audio and video, early releases, access to archived content, fewer advertisements, and additional episodes. Creators can distribute these benefits across different membership tiers, with separate pricing options.

Spotify Free and Premium users in supported markets can discover available Memberships directly on podcast show pages and access subscriber-only content through Spotify.

However, as per reports, purchases are handled through the web rather than native in-app transactions.

Memberships also introduce community-focused features. Subscribers can display membership badges when commenting on episodes, while creators can welcome new supporters through dedicated clips.

The idea is to give paying fans additional recognition and opportunities to interact with their favorite podcast creators.

Spotify Offers Creators 90% Membership Revenue And Monetization Tools

Beyond exclusive content, the financial arrangement is another major attraction.

Spotify says creators retain 90% of the membership revenue they generate, providing a recurring income opportunity alongside advertising, sponsorships, and its existing Partner Program.

This follows Spotify's previous expansion of its podcast monetization program, although Memberships operate as a separate offering.

Creators also receive targeted promotional tools, free trials, and analytics that help identify what drives membership sign-ups.

Furthermore, Spotify allows creators to export member information, including contact details from fans who voluntarily share them.

This gives podcasters an opportunity to maintain relationships with their audiences beyond Spotify itself, rather than depending entirely on interactions within the platform.

Spotify Sets Podcast Membership Eligibility At Just 100 Listeners

Spotify is also making the new subscription feature accessible to relatively small podcast audiences.

To qualify, a podcast must be hosted through Spotify for Creators or Megaphone and satisfy three requirements: at least three published episodes, 100 listeners or viewers, and 100 consumption hours on Spotify within the previous 30 days.

These thresholds are specific to Memberships and differ from other Spotify creator monetization programs. Earlier this year, we noted Spotify's efforts to lower video podcast monetization requirements.

Several shows are already participating in the Memberships launch, including The Adam Friedland Show, Making Sense with Sam Harris, The Shawn Ryan Show, Two Hot Takes, and The Sculpt Society.

YMH Studios is also introducing paid Memberships across 12 shows in its network, offering different combinations of content and fan experiences.

Spotify Podcast Memberships Launch Across 34 Markets, Excluding India

Spotify first previewed Memberships during its Investor Day earlier in 2026 before beginning the rollout on October 20.

The initial 34 markets include the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, and several other European countries.

India is not included in the initial rollout, and Spotify has not announced an expansion timeline in its October 20 announcement.

With Memberships, Spotify is adding another way for podcasters to earn directly from their most engaged audiences, while allowing creators themselves to decide which experiences are worth charging for.
