Siri Just Got Its Biggest AI Glow-Up Yet & Will Now Understand Your Life

WWDC26 is Apple’s annual developer showcase, where the company previews the next wave of software updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.

This year, the spotlight landed on Apple Intelligence as Apple introduced Siri AI, a rebuilt assistant designed to be more conversational, personal, and useful across everyday apps.

Apple Rebuilds Siri AI Into A More Personal Assistant Across iPhone, Mac And Vision Pro

Apple has finally given Siri the AI-first overhaul users have been waiting for, introducing Siri AI at WWDC26 as a completely reimagined version of its digital assistant.

Powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence, Siri AI is designed to answer broader questions, understand what is happening on a user’s screen, and pull relevant information from personal content such as messages, emails, photos, and apps.

“We’re excited to introduce Siri AI, a dramatically more capable and conversational assistant designed to help users find information and get things done throughout the day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s SVP of Software Engineering.

“With access to broad world knowledge for up-to-date answers on virtually any topic, along with onscreen awareness and personal context understanding, Siri AI can help users take action across apps more naturally than ever.”

The new Siri can help users find a restaurant recommendation from an old message, locate a hotel confirmation from email, or pull up vacation photos with family and friends. Apple also said personal context understanding will extend into third-party apps when developers integrate with Spotlight.
 

Siri AI Adds Onscreen Awareness, Web Answers And Systemwide App Actions

The biggest change is that Siri AI is no longer limited to simple commands. It can answer questions related to content on the screen, search across apps, and use broad world knowledge from the web to provide up-to-date responses.

For example, if a user receives a message about a potluck, they can ask Siri what to bring, brainstorm ideas, and add a recipe to Notes. Siri can also draft emails from scratch, edit and share photos, and continue a conversation through follow-up questions.

Apple is also making Siri easier to access across devices. iPhone users can still say “Hey Siri,” press the side button, or swipe down from the Dynamic Island to start a conversation. On iPad and Mac, Siri AI is integrated into Spotlight, while Mac users can ask questions about images, files, and text through context menus.

On Apple Vision Pro, Siri AI appears as a 3D visualization that users can place in their space and activate by looking at it and speaking.
 

Apple Says Siri AI Keeps Privacy At The Center Of Its New Architecture

Apple said Siri has been rebuilt from the ground up using a new Apple Intelligence architecture that runs on device and, when needed, on servers using Private Cloud Compute.

According to Apple, when Private Cloud Compute handles requests, users’ personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple or anyone else. The company also said outside experts can continue verifying this privacy promise.

Siri AI also uses a system orchestrator to access on-device tools such as the Spotlight index and App Toolbox, keeping more personal data under user control.
 

Siri AI Gets Visual Intelligence, Writing Tools And A Dedicated App

Apple is also giving Siri its own dedicated app, where users can revisit previous conversations and continue chats across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro through private iCloud syncing.

Visual Intelligence is expanding too. On iPhone, Siri gets a new mode inside the Camera app, allowing users to ask questions about what they see. Apple said this can support actions such as splitting a bill with friends using Apple Cash or getting nutritional insights from a plate of food.

For the first time, Visual Intelligence with Siri is also coming to iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. iPad users can access it through screenshots, while Mac users can select something on the display and type directly to Siri for help.

Siri AI also brings stronger Writing Tools across the system. Users can ask Siri to draft text, rewrite content, proofread as they type, or match the tone and punctuation they typically use with specific people in Mail and Messages.
 

Siri AI Availability And Supported Devices

Apple said Siri AI features are available for developer testing starting today across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27, with watchOS 27 developer testing arriving in a future beta.

A user beta will arrive later this year for supported devices set to English, with more languages coming later.

Supported devices include iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad mini with A17 Pro, iPad models with M1 or later, Macs with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Watch Series 10 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with a nearby Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.

However, Siri AI will not initially be available on iOS and iPadOS in the EU, and Apple said the features will not be available in China while it works through regulatory requirements.
