Roblox is bringing game development directly into its mobile app with Build, an artificial intelligence-powered creation feature that can turn a written prompt into a playable starting point without requiring programming or traditional 3D design experience.
TL;DR
- Roblox Build generates basic games from text prompts inside its mobile app.
- Public alpha testing begins in New Zealand on July 28, 2026.
- Build uses proprietary Roblox technology and open-source AI models.
- Free access will be offered alongside paid options for advanced creators.
Roblox announced Build as a new mobile-first creation tab that allows users to describe the game they want and receive an automatically generated foundation that they can edit, test, share with friends, or eventually publish. The feature significantly expands creation beyond Roblox Studio, its established desktop development environment.
For example, a user could request a cozy adventure set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles. Build would generate the initial experience, including elements of its environment and gameplay, before allowing the creator to continue refining the concept.
According to Roblox, Build combines proprietary and open-source AI models to produce gameplay mechanics, characters, environments, visual styles, sound, functional 3D objects, and complete scenes. Build and Studio share a back end, model access, and conversation history, enabling creators to begin a project on mobile and later enhance it using Studio’s broader capabilities.
Nick Tornow, Roblox’s Senior Vice President of Engine, and Vlad Loktev, Chief Creator Ecosystem Officer, introduced the feature in the company’s official announcement.
“Somewhere right now, someone has an idea for a game. They just don’t know how to build it,” they wrote, presenting Build as the next phase of Roblox’s long-standing “You make the game” philosophy.
Who Can Access Roblox Build?
Build will enter public alpha testing in New Zealand on July 28, 2026, for age-checked users aged nine and above. Roblox plans to expand the tool to additional creators and regions over the following months as it tests the experience and introduces more capabilities.
Games published through Build and approved by Roblox’s safety systems will initially be available globally to age-checked users aged 16 and above. Before entering the Roblox Kids or Select catalogs, Build-created experiences will go through the same extended review process applied to other games.
A base version will be available free of charge, while Roblox plans to introduce paid options for power users. The company has not yet disclosed pricing or the additional functionality that those plans will provide.
Roblox Says Build Will Not Promote ‘AI Slop’
Making game creation dramatically easier could also increase the number of low-quality or repetitive experiences published on Roblox. The company says Build-generated games will not receive special treatment and will compete through the platform’s existing retention-based discovery system.
This means experiences must demonstrate sustained player engagement to gain visibility. Roblox says its recommendation systems are intended to prevent poorly received AI-generated games from taking over users’ homepages.
The concern is not limited to Roblox. The Game Developers Conference’s 2026 State of the Game Industry report found that 52% of surveyed professionals believed generative AI was negatively affecting the industry, compared with 30% in the previous year. Just 7% viewed its impact positively.
What Comes Next For Roblox’s AI Tools?
Roblox is also developing playtesting, analytics, and experimentation agents for Build and Studio. These agents will identify bugs, answer questions about performance data, and recommend tests intended to improve engagement, retention, and monetization.

The company is additionally preparing a scene-generation model that can produce complete editable and playable 3D environments from a single prompt. This builds on Cube, Roblox’s 3D foundation model, and its recently introduced Procedural Models for generating adjustable assets from text or images.
With Roblox reporting 132 million daily active users, Build could turn a large portion of its player community into potential game creators, while testing whether AI can broaden game development without overwhelming the platform with disposable content.
