As 2026 kicks off, four signals are getting louder across enterprise tech: voice is becoming the new interface, AI infrastructure trades are cooling after a monster year, memory makers are fighting for HBM leadership, and China’s AI chip pipeline is heating up in Hong Kong.

This hardware direction follows OpenAI’s deepening design push; OpenAI has publicly said the io team merged with OpenAI, with Jony Ive and LoveFrom taking “deep design and creative responsibilities.”

In that same OpenAI note, the company framed the moment as: “Computers are now seeing, thinking and understanding.”

If intelligence is becoming ambient and conversational, the infrastructure powering it still needs to scale, and markets are now questioning how long that expansion can continue uninterrupted.

Jun also cautioned that Samsung still has work to do to further improve its competitiveness, as the company pushes to close the AI memory gap.

Rival SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung said competition is intensifying and the 2026 environment could be tougher, emphasizing the need for continued bold investment.

Samsung’s co-CEO TM Roh also warned 2026 could bring greater uncertainty and risks, citing supply chain pressures and tariff barriers, and said Samsung will reinforce competitiveness through “proactive supply chain diversification.”

While established chip giants prepare for a tougher, more competitive cycle, capital markets are signaling where the next wave of AI hardware bets may emerge.
   

Biren’s Hong Kong Debut Pops As China’s AI IPO Wave Builds


Shanghai Biren Technology, a Chinese AI chip designer, jumped sharply in its Hong Kong debut, kicking off 2026 listings with strong demand.

The setup seems wider: a growing pipeline of chip and AI offerings as China accelerates domestic alternatives amid U.S. export curbs.

Winston Ma, an adjunct professor at NYU School of Law, said: “Chinese AI startups are going public faster than U.S. giants…” citing supportive policy and clearer revenue paths.

Davis Polk partner Li He added: “AI is fundamentally transformative, driving keen investor appetite.”

Qiming Venture Partners’ Alex Zhou called the listing a sign of “original innovation” becoming more central to China’s tech entrepreneurship.
