Meta has launched Muse Spark 1.3, its latest artificial intelligence model, bringing stronger coding and agentic capabilities, more efficient tool use, improved long-task performance, and new safety upgrades as it steps up competition with OpenAI and Anthropic. According to Meta AI Research, the model is designed to improve performance across coding, agentic workflows, and complex multi-step tasks.

The model is available through Muse Code and the Meta Model API, with Meta saying its engineers observed around 20% fewer tool calls and 25% fewer tokens compared with Muse Spark 1.2 during coding tasks.

TL;DR

  • Meta launched Muse Spark 1.3 with improvements to coding, AI agents, multitasking and long-running workflows.
  • Meta says the model uses around 20% fewer tool calls and 25% fewer tokens than Muse Spark 1.2 in its coding comparisons.
  • Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang says its performance is now competitive with leading OpenAI and Anthropic models.

Meta introduced Muse Spark 1.3, calling it a more practically useful model designed to perform better across agentic and coding tasks.

According to Meta's official announcement, Muse Spark 1.3 is built to sustain longer-running work while juggling multiple workflows within a single conversation. Instead of treating every task as an isolated request, the model can generate context using tools, identify gaps in its plan and retain information gathered during a workflow.

It has also been trained to collaborate more actively with users. Muse Spark 1.3 can ask clarifying questions when instructions are ambiguous, request assistance when it gets stuck and seek confirmation before taking consequential actions.

Meta says the model is also better at following lengthy and complex instructions without losing individual requirements as a task progresses. The company added that Muse Spark 1.3 has improved awareness of what it knows, what it cannot do and when it has encountered a problem, rather than simply generating an answer regardless.

Muse Spark 1.3 Gets A Coding Efficiency Boost

Coding is one of the biggest areas Meta focused on with the new release.

Meta says Muse Spark 1.3 was trained on more long-horizon coding tasks and has been tuned to reduce unnecessary back-and-forth during engineering workflows. In comparisons conducted by Meta engineers against Muse Spark 1.2, the new model used around 20% fewer tool calls and approximately 25% fewer tokens, while producing what the company describes as cleaner coding output.

Meta has also evaluated Muse Spark 1.3 across professional work, computer-use agents, web research and automation, software engineering, instruction following and long-context retrieval.

Bloomberg reported that Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang described Muse Spark 1.3 as the company's biggest jump in model performance so far, framing the release as a step toward closing the gap with leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

Mint similarly reported that Meta is positioning Muse Spark 1.3 as a stronger competitor in the race for advanced AI systems.

The comparisons do not mean Muse Spark 1.3 universally outperforms either rival, since model performance can vary considerably by task, benchmark, reasoning configuration and agent setup.

Meta Adds More Guardrails For AI Agents

Giving an AI model more autonomy also increases the importance of knowing when it should stop.

Meta says Muse Spark 1.3 brings stronger resistance to adversarial inputs and prompt-injection attacks, while improving how the model identifies actions that cannot easily be reversed. In these situations, the model is designed to seek user confirmation before proceeding.

The company is also holding back Muse Spark 1.3's maximum reasoning mode until additional safety testing is completed, while previously available reasoning modes are accessible.

Where Is Muse Spark 1.3 Available?

Muse Spark 1.3 is available through Muse Code and the Meta Model API.

Mint reported that Meta is keeping API pricing in line with Muse Spark 1.2, while broader reporting around the launch has focused on Meta's effort to make the new model more competitive with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Firstpost also highlighted the model's stronger coding and AI-agent capabilities as Meta intensifies competition with OpenAI and Anthropic.

With Muse Spark 1.3, Meta is making coding and long-running AI agents central to its latest push to close the gap with OpenAI and Anthropic. How far that gap has actually narrowed will depend on independent evaluations and how the model performs in real developer and enterprise workflows.
