The Gates Foundation and Anthropic collaboration focuses on building practical AI tools and shared resources to support underserved communities and improve access to essential services worldwide. In global health and life sciences, the initiative will support efforts to accelerate vaccine and therapy development, improve disease forecasting, and strengthen health data systems.
 
It will also focus on making complex health datasets more usable for governments and researchers. As part of this, Anthropic will work with partners including the Institute for Disease Modeling to improve disease forecasting tools used in areas such as malaria and tuberculosis.
 
The work will also explore AI applications in screening treatments for diseases like polio, HPV, and eclampsia, as well as improving early-stage vaccine research. Another focus area includes supporting frontline health workers with better decision-making tools for diagnosis, treatment planning, and outbreak response.
 
In education, the partnership will focus on improving learning outcomes for K–12 students in the US, sub-Saharan Africa, and India. The goal is to build AI-enabled tools for tutoring, curriculum support, and career guidance, along with shared datasets and benchmarks to measure effectiveness. The initiative is also part of the broader Global AI for Learning Alliance (GAILA), which aims to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy support through technology.
 
The collaboration also extends into economic mobility, with programs aimed at improving job readiness, skill tracking, and career transition support. In agriculture, the focus will be on helping smallholder farmers access more reliable, localized guidance on crops, soil health, and market conditions, using AI tools adapted to regional needs.
 
The Gates Foundation said the partnership is intended to ensure AI tools are designed for real-world needs, especially in communities where access to advanced technology has been limited. It also emphasized building shared “public goods” such as datasets and benchmarks that can be used across countries and systems.

Anthropic described the effort as part of its broader push to expand the “beneficial deployments” of AI, using its engineering support and AI systems to address areas where market-driven solutions alone are often insufficient.

Over the coming years, both organizations plan to expand these initiatives and publish learnings from the programs as they scale.
