At Galaxy Unpacked 2026, held in London, Samsung introduced three foldables for three different buyers, instead of forcing productivity, entertainment, and compact convenience into one increasingly expensive device.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra leads the range with Samsung’s most powerful foldable hardware, while the redesigned Fold8 prioritizes lighter everyday use. The Flip8 focuses on quick interactions, selfies and AI tools that work without repeatedly opening the phone.
TL;DR
- Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra combines an 8-inch screen, 200 MP camera and 5,000 mAh battery.
- Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s lightest Fold, weighing 201 grams.
- Galaxy Z Flip8 is Samsung’s slimmest and lightest Flip.
- Galaxy AI adds app automation, contextual recommendations and privacy controls across the lineup.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Brings Samsung’s Biggest Productivity Upgrades To A Foldable
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is Samsung’s first Ultra-branded foldable, built for buyers who want a phone, tablet-style workspace and content creation device in one package. It measures 4.1 millimeters when unfolded, weighs 215 grams and opens into an 8-inch main display designed for multitasking.
The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, supported by a 5,000 mAh battery, 45W fast charging and an expanded graphite cooling structure. Its camera system includes a 200 MP main sensor with HDR support, a 50 MP ultra-wide camera, improved Nightography, 8K video recording through the APV codec and Cine LUT controls.
Flex Titanium supports the thinner display structure while helping reduce crease visibility. For productivity, Now Nudge can recognize possible next steps and open apps in Multi Window, while Gemini Notebook can organize PDFs, recordings, notes and images into summaries, reports, presentations, audio overviews or quizzes.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Redesigns The Everyday Foldable Around Viewing, Reading And Gaming
Galaxy Z Fold8 is the more consumer-friendly option for people who want a large foldable screen without carrying Samsung’s heaviest productivity model. At 201 grams, it is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. It's also referred to as the "passport phone" owing to its size matching a standard passport.
Its 5.5-inch cover screen uses a familiar 10:16 ratio for messaging, browsing and short-form video. Unfolding the phone reveals a 7.6-inch display with a 4:3 ratio suited to movies and games. Rotating it creates a 3:4 layout that feels more natural for e-books, articles and web browsing.
The Fold8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and a 4,800 mAh battery that supports more than 26 hours of video playback. Its display reaches up to 3,000 nits and includes Vision Booster with a low-reflection finish.
Dual 50 MP wide and ultra-wide cameras handle everyday photography, while My FanCam automatically follows a selected person and reframes recorded footage for social media. Dual Recording can also capture the creator and subject while providing a cover-screen preview.
Galaxy Z Flip8 Makes Its FlexWindow Smarter, Faster And More Useful While Closed
Galaxy Z Flip8 is designed for buyers who value portability and fast access more than a tablet-sized display. It weighs 180 grams and measures 6.1 millimeters when unfolded, making it Samsung’s lightest and slimmest Flip.
The upgraded FlexWindow moves beyond basic notifications by supporting apps, connected tasks and AI-powered actions without opening the phone. Now Brief can display weather, schedules, notifications, exchange rates and stock updates in personalized cards. Gemini Intelligence can also be activated using the side key or voice commands.
For photography, the Flip8 includes a 50 MP camera with ProVisual Engine. Flex Mode enables hands-free shooting, while Camcorder Grip with Zoom Rocker provides more stable one-handed recording. Super Steady adds Horizontal Lock to keep moving footage level.
Dual Recording captures the person filming and the subject in the same video. A live preview on the cover screen lets both people check the framing, making the feature useful for vlogs, challenges and casual social content.
Galaxy AI Turns Samsung’s Foldables Into More Proactive Assistants
Samsung says Gemini-powered automation can work across more than 40 supported apps and services, helping users search, plan, organize and complete connected actions with fewer manual steps.
“As AI becomes more agentic, mobile devices will become the most personal entry point to experiences that understand and adapt to each user,” said TM Roh, Chief Executive Officer, President and Head of Samsung’s Device eXperience Division.
Samsung Adds More Visibility Into AI Security And Privacy
Samsung Knox, Knox Matrix, Knox Vault, KEEP and the Personal Data Engine protect personalized AI data through encrypted storage, hardware-level security and user-controlled processing.
One UI 9 also introduces an AI Assistant Activity dashboard, which provides a centralized view of automations completed on the user’s behalf. Enhanced Privacy Alerts can flag unnecessary attempts to access background permissions before those risks become harder to identify.
