Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has launched Grok Business and Grok Enterprise, two new paid subscription tiers of its Grok chatbot designed for corporate and professional users. The launch comes at a time when the company faces mounting scrutiny over Grok’s misuse in generating non-consensual deepfake images.

TL;DR

  • xAI has unveiled Grok Business and Grok Enterprise, introducing advanced administrative tools, data isolation, and compliance features.
  • The move positions xAI to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise and Anthropic’s Claude for Business.
  • Regulators in the UK, France, and India are investigating Grok’s misuse in producing explicit deepfake content.
  • xAI said it is reinforcing safety measures after the incidents drew global criticism.

xAI’s Push Into The Enterprise AI Market

According to The Indian Express, xAI officially announced Grok Business and Grok Enterprise at the end of December 2025. These tiers expand Grok’s capabilities to organizational users with higher usage limits, advanced data controls, and enterprise-grade compliance.

Both plans provide access to the company’s latest Grok models including Grok 3, Grok 4, and Grok 4 Heavy alongside enhanced collaboration tools such as directory synchronization, single sign-on (SSO), and audit logging. The Enterprise Vault feature isolates sensitive business data with encryption and prevents it from being used for training other AI models.

As noted by xAI in its official announcement: “For end-users, Grok Business makes secure AI work feel effortless. You can pull in data from your company’s tools like Google Drive and share insights safely with teammates.”

These additions bring Grok in direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise, Anthropic’s Claude for Business, and Google’s Gemini Workspace. Reports by Medianama highlight that Grok Enterprise targets large organizations requiring compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, and CCPA standards, reflecting Musk’s intent to expand xAI beyond social media integrations.

Deepfake And Safety Concerns Overshadow The Launch

While xAI is marketing Grok’s new tiers for business and professional applications, its public version has become the focus of international controversy.

Investigations revealed that Grok’s image-generation system was used to create digitally altered and sexualized images of women and minors. According to Reuters, the UK government has demanded an explanation from xAI and Musk’s X platform for what it called a potential breach of the country’s safety and decency laws.

A spokesperson for Ofcom confirmed that communications had been sent to X and xAI, stating: “We are extremely concerned by reports of sexually explicit and harmful material generated using Grok and have requested detailed information on the safeguards in place to prevent illegal content.”

In France, the Minister for Digital Affairs referred the matter to prosecutors, describing the content as “manifestly illegal” and urging compliance with the European Union’s Digital Services Act.

Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a notice to X over what it described as a “serious failure of platform-level safeguards” and demanded a report outlining corrective measures.

xAI has acknowledged that some moderation systems failed and stated it is “deploying enhanced safety controls” to prevent further misuse. The company has not released a detailed timeline for the rollout of these new safeguards.

Balancing Innovation With Responsibility

The timing of the deepfake controversy places xAI in a challenging position as it seeks enterprise credibility. While Grok Business and Grok Enterprise offer advanced compliance and data protection, critics say that the same underlying AI model’s public misuse raises concerns about governance and oversight.

Analysts cited by Medianama and eMarketer note that competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic have distinguished themselves by emphasizing responsible AI frameworks and content governance factors that enterprise buyers consider central to risk mitigation.

Despite this, xAI maintains that Grok’s business versions are isolated from the consumer platform, ensuring strict security and compliance for enterprise users. Whether these assurances will be enough to gain regulatory and market trust remains to be seen.

What Lies Ahead For xAI

xAI’s expansion into enterprise AI signals Musk’s ambition to grow beyond consumer-facing chatbots. However, the company’s response to regulatory scrutiny will determine how it is perceived in the long term.

Investigations in the UK, France, and India are ongoing, and governments have called for greater transparency regarding the platform’s AI safety systems.

The success of Grok Business and Grok Enterprise will depend not only on the strength of their features but also on xAI’s ability to demonstrate accountability in managing AI responsibly.
