Augmented World Expo 2026: AURA Smart Glasses Arrive With Android XR And Gemini AI Integration!

Smart glasses have been evolving for years, but many devices still struggle to balance comfort, performance, and practical everyday use. Google and XREAL are now aiming to address that challenge with a new Android XR device that combines AI, spatial computing, and a lightweight design built for extended wear.

At the Augmented World Expo 2026 (AWE), Google and XREAL have officially launched XREAL AURA, a new pair of Android XR smart glasses scheduled to arrive in Fall 2026. The device was first introduced as Project Aura at Google I/O 2026 and is now moving toward a commercial release with additional technical details revealed.

AURA uses a wired, split-compute architecture that shifts processing, battery, and thermal demands away from the glasses and into a dedicated spatial compute unit. The system is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite platform, allowing the glasses to remain lightweight while supporting advanced XR experiences.


One of AURA's key features is its 70-degree field of view, which XREAL describes as a virtually borderless visual canvas. The glasses also include world-facing sensors that enable hand tracking, 6DoF tracking, and multimodal AI experiences with user permission.

Inside the frames, XREAL's X1S Spatial Coprocessor handles low-latency spatial display and sensor processing. The device runs on Google's Android XR platform, giving users access to Gemini AI, Play Store applications, and a growing ecosystem of XR-specific apps.

Qualcomm says Snapdragon Reality Elite delivers up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, along with improvements in GPU, CPU, and NPU performance compared with Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2. The platform also supports up to 4.4K resolution per eye at 90Hz while targeting better power efficiency and cooler operation.
 
XREAL has not announced the final retail price of AURA. However, reservations are now open ahead of the launch. Customers can secure a spot with a $99 Launch Credit that converts into a $199 credit toward the final purchase. The company is also offering a limited Founder Priority Pass that includes launch-day delivery and special-edition hardware. XREAL AURA will initially be available in the U.S., U.K., Japan, Canada, and South Korea, with Best Buy as its U.S. retail partner.

As the XR market evolves, AURA could become one of the first major tests of Google's Android XR ecosystem.
