Samsung Display Sets Sights On Next-Gen XR Innovations At AWE USA

Samsung Display has announced that it is participating in AWE USA 2026, which is taking place from June 16 to 18 at the Long Beach Convention Center in California. The company said it is presenting its latest RGB OLEDoS technology for extended reality devices, including mixed reality headsets and augmented reality smart glasses.

The move comes as Samsung Display looks to accelerate its presence in the next-generation XR device market, a segment that is seeing renewed attention as smart glasses and lightweight wearable displays become key battlegrounds for consumer electronics and spatial computing companies.

At the event, Samsung Display has prepared a range of interactive experience zones that allow visitors to test the visual performance of its RGB OLEDoS technology. One of the main attractions is a dark-room installation called “The Big Dipper,” where seven display panels recreate the Big Dipper constellation.

Among them, two panels use Samsung Display’s 1.3-inch RGB OLEDoS display, which can reach 40,000 nits of brightness. The setup is designed to show the contrast between the company’s ultra-high-brightness RGB OLEDoS panels and conventional display technologies.

Samsung Display said visitors can experience the brightness, color reproduction, and fine visual detail of the technology in a darkened environment.

Samsung Display is also demonstrating prototype AR smart glasses in its “Connected Vision” zone. These glasses use a 0.62-inch RGB OLEDoS display and allow visitors to access AR-based information such as real-time translation, navigation, and weather updates while viewing content based on the Long Beach coastline.

The company is positioning RGB OLEDoS as a display technology suited for the fast-emerging smart glasses market, which it described as gaining attention as the next major mobile platform.

“RGB OLEDoS is composed of a single panel, making the manufacturing process less complex than other technologies and offering significant advantages in mass production and cost competitiveness,” said a Samsung Display representative. “Based on our world-class OLED technology and extensive mass-production experience, we will continue developing ultra-high-brightness RGB OLEDoS while focusing on improving production efficiency.”

Samsung Display also said RGB OLEDoS differs from white OLEDoS because it does not require a color filter, helping improve light efficiency and lifespan. According to the company, these advantages make it suitable for XR devices that require compact form factors, high brightness, and strong color reproduction.

“Unlike white OLEDoS, RGB OLEDoS does not require a color filter, enabling higher light efficiency and longer lifespan,” said a Samsung Display representative. “This is why RGB OLEDoS is considered an optimal solution for XR devices, which require sharp image quality in compact and lightweight form factors.”

In the “MR Experience” zone, Samsung Display is presenting a prototype MR headset powered by RGB OLEDoS. Visitors can watch immersive K-pop concert content or play the rhythm-action game Synth Riders, giving the company another way to highlight the panel’s use in entertainment-focused XR experiences.

Beyond XR, Samsung Display is also showcasing concept technologies that point to future spatial interfaces. These include a stretchable display that remains flat under normal conditions but can protrude depending on the usage scenario, along with Light Field Display, which creates 3D-like visuals without requiring glasses or headsets.
