Apple has officially confirmed its next special event for September 9, 2026, under the tagline “Surprise and shine,” with reports pointing to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the company’s long-rumored foldable iPhone taking center stage.

In an official Apple Developer announcement dated August 26, the company invited viewers to a special Apple Event on Wednesday, September 9, beginning at 10 a.m. PT. Apple said the presentation will be available through Apple.com, Apple TV, and YouTube Live.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, also promoted the announcement, saying, “Surprise and shine! It’s almost time for the #AppleEvent, on Wednesday, September 9!”
However, Apple has stopped short of confirming exactly what will be unveiled.
What Could Apple Launch On September 9?
The expectation across multiple reports is that the event will primarily focus on Apple’s next generation of iPhones.
TechCrunch reports that Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, although the two devices could be more iterative upgrades than complete redesigns. The publication also says Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone could finally make its debut.
Mashable similarly reports that Apple is widely expected to introduce new iPhones and a foldable smartphone, which has been rumored under the “iPhone Ultra” name. The publication also notes that Apple’s promotional artwork features a glowing, neon-like Apple logo that could invite plenty of speculation about what “Surprise and shine” is teasing.
Engadget also points to the foldable device as potentially being the biggest reveal of the event. According to the publication, the rumored foldable could open into a tablet-style format and deliver utility closer to an iPad mini.
It is worth stressing that the foldable iPhone, its possible “iPhone Ultra” name, specifications, and the iPhone 18 Pro models have not been officially confirmed by Apple.
Will The Standard iPhone 18 Launch Too?
Moneycontrol expects Apple to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside other models in the iPhone 18 lineup. It also reports that refreshed Apple Watch models could feature at the event.
However, TechCrunch says reports have indicated that the standard iPhone 18 will not arrive until next year. Engadget echoes that possibility, reporting that the base iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air could be held until spring 2027.
Until Apple makes its product announcements on September 9, the timing of the standard iPhone 18 should therefore be treated as unconfirmed.
