Amazon Launches Alexa+ In India With Hindi, Hinglish & ₹2,000 Non-Prime Pricing
Updated on Thu, Sep 17, 2026
India is not just another market getting Alexa+.
Amazon says some of the hardest technology behind its generative AI (GenAI) assistant was built there, as it launches Hindi, Hinglish, and English support alongside conversational, shopping, entertainment, and smart-home capabilities.
TL;DR
- Amazon has launched Alexa+ in India under Early Access with English, Hindi, and Hinglish support.
- The assistant can hold longer conversations, remember context, control smart homes, shop, send emails, and work across Echo, Fire TV, and the Alexa app.
- Early Access is free. After it ends, Alexa+ remains free for Prime members, while non-Prime users can pay ₹2,000 per month.
Amazon Alexa+ India Launch Adds Hindi, Hinglish And More Natural Conversations
Alexa+ is designed to make conversations feel less like issuing commands and more like continuing a discussion. Users only need to say “Alexa” once, then ask follow-up questions, change topics, or switch between English and Hindi within the same sentence.
The assistant can remember information users choose to share, including anniversaries, restaurant preferences, dietary restrictions, or book recommendations. Users can upload school schedules, appliance manuals, study material, handwritten recipes, and other documents through the Alexa app or email, then ask Alexa+ for relevant information.
A conversation started on an Echo Show can continue later in the Alexa app or on Fire TV, with Alexa+ retaining the context. Amazon says browser access through Alexa.com is coming to Indian customers.
Alexa+ Expands Into Shopping, Entertainment And Daily Organization
Amazon is pushing Alexa+ beyond answering questions. The assistant can summarize calendars, add events, send emails by voice, adjust the tone of a dictated message, and direct announcements to specific Echo devices.
For entertainment, Alexa+ can find songs from descriptions, create mood-based playlists, recommend movies and books, locate podcast episodes, move music between rooms, and surface streaming recommendations on Fire TV. Supported services include Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Prime Video, and Netflix.
Shopping is another major focus. Users can ask Alexa+ to find products on Amazon.in, refine results conversationally, compare features, summarize verified reviews, answer product questions, track prices, and suggest alternatives when an item is unavailable.
Soon, users will also be able to order groceries and essentials through Amazon Now by voice. Alexa+ is expected to support EazyDiner, Swiggy, District by Zomato, MakeMyTrip, HomeTriangle, and TripAdvisor for restaurant reservations, food delivery, events, travel, and home services.
Alexa+ Makes Smart Homes More Context-Aware
Alexa+ can control compatible smart-home products from brands including Atomberg, Qubo, Dreame, and Wipro. Instead of requiring exact device names, it can infer intent from statements such as a room being too hot or dark, then adjust a compatible AC or light.
Users can build multi-step routines entirely by voice, combining lighting, music, curtains, Fire TV, and other connected devices. Voice ID and visual ID can personalize responses for different household members.
Amazon describes this as part of its “ambient AI” approach, where the assistant uses routines, time of day, location within the home, and established habits to offer help without demanding constant attention.
India-Built Alexa+ AI Tackles Code-Switching And Local Context
Amazon says teams across Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai developed core Alexa+ technology spanning speech recognition, language understanding, cultural context, and task completion.
The challenge is particularly visible in Indian homes, where multiple generations may use different languages, accents, and dialects, often switching languages within one sentence. Alexa+ is designed to recognize local names, movie titles, Indian measurements, and relationship terms while handling noisy household environments.
“Technology should do the work of understanding us,” said Prasad Kapila, Head of Alexa International Tech.
Amazon says techniques developed to solve these problems in India are now used globally. It also says Alexa customers in India recorded more than nine billion interactions over the last 12 months.

Alexa+ India Pricing Keeps Early Access Free
Alexa+ is free for all customers during Early Access. Customers can request access online, while buyers of eligible new Echo or Fire TV devices can get immediate access.
After Early Access, Alexa+ will remain free for Prime plan members. Prime Lite, Prime Shopping Edition, and non-Prime customers can instead access it through a standalone ₹2,000 monthly subscription or a Prime plan.
The Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11, Echo Dot Max, and Echo Studio are purpose-built for Alexa+, with more processing power, memory, edge computing, and newer sensors. Certain older Echo generations will not support the service, and some features vary by device.
Alexa+ also includes privacy controls through the Alexa Privacy dashboard, where users can review interactions, listen to what Alexa heard, manage shared attachments, and change how long voice recordings are stored.
