Imagine you're browsing online for your dream car, sifting through reviews like a seasoned critic at a movie premiere. Within a few clicks, you're on the verge of adding your ultimate ride to the cart. Sounds unlike the traditional car-shopping experience but more exciting, right?

Well, buckle up, as your dream is about to come true! In a surprising move set to redefine the automotive and retail technology landscape, Amazon is gearing up to introduce vehicles on its Ecommerce platforms by 2024, marking its foray into the automotive sector.

Amazon is partnering with none other than South Korean automaker giant, Hyundai. The tech giant announced this transformative step at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November, sending ripples of anticipation through the retail and automotive industry.

Let's see how Amazon is anticipated to revolutionize the automotive retail landscape!

  • While dealerships have embraced online sales to bolster their business, many struggle to navigate the array of tools essential for catering to the digital experience of customers. Amazon's vast resources and expertise will help streamline the online car buying journey, alleviating some of the challenges automotive retailers face.

  • Besides, according to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, "Hyundai is a very innovative company that shares Amazon's passion for trying to make customers' lives better and easier every day. Our broad, strategic partnership should do just that, from changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online, to making it simple to use Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments, and calendar checks, to enabling Hyundai to transform their customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS. We look forward to inventing together for many years."

Now, let's see what steps Amazon is considering while collaborating with Hyundai.

  • To begin with, this step by Amazon can potentially disrupt the automotive retail sector's shift toward digital commerce. In fact, according to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, this leap by Amazon will lead the way for "ease with which customers can buy vehicles online."

  • Transforming the car-buying experience, Amazon's platform will enable prospective buyers to select vehicles categorized by model, color, trim and more. Moreover, in a symbiotic exchange, Hyundai will integrate Amazon's renowned voice assistant, Alexa, into its vehicles by 2025, a move poised to enhance the driving experience for consumers.

  • While offering financing options through its website, critical services integral to completing the purchase, such as delivery, customer interaction and servicing, will continue to be facilitated by local dealerships. The best part is these services will comply with state laws governing vehicle sales!

  • Besides, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company Jaehoon (Jay) Chang said, “Partnering with one of the world’s most customer-centric organizations unlocks incredible opportunities as we continue to expand our portfolio, grow our sales network, transition to electrification and realize the future of smart mobility.” He continued, “Amazon is the ideal partner to help realize our vision of progress for humanity, including improving how people and goods move more efficiently and sustainably. Hyundai is the first automotive company available for full end-to-end transactions in Amazon’s U.S. store and this is another example of how we continue to push for ways to elevate the customer journey together with our outstanding retail partners.”

Nevertheless, the announcement of Amazon's entry into the automotive realm has already reverberated across the industry, with leading online vehicle sales platforms such as Carvana and CarMax witnessing substantial declines in share value.

Do you think this move will help Hyundai successfully bridge the gap between online and in-store sales more effectively? Is this move another masterstroke by Amazon to diversify its business interests?
