At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, addressed these concerns, saying AI will reshape jobs rather than eliminate them.

"AI will not kill jobs. AI will unbundle jobs... Your job is a bundle of tasks. What AI will do is it will unbundle it," Chandok said. He emphasized that continuous skilling is essential for workers to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
Chandok highlighted that AI differs from previous technology waves like the internet, mobile, or cloud computing because it allows humans to "manufacture intelligence" at scale. "Intelligence is the most valuable commodity on the planet," he said.
Since the 'ChatGPT moment' about three years ago, AI capabilities have advanced at lightning speed. Chandok said India is now at a critical turning point, similar to the nationwide impact of digital infrastructure initiatives like Aadhaar and UPI. "India stands at the brink of something even bigger with AI," he said.
According to Microsoft research, Chandok noted that 92% of knowledge workers in India use AI, with 77% using it daily. Well, these are the highest adoption rates globally. AI is moving from a tool to a "digital colleague," capable of perception, cognition, and agency.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National AI Forum is driving AI adoption, innovation, and regulation to ensure it benefits ‘people, planet, and progress,’ with the summit hosting nearly 700 events throughout the week.
